Terms of use

The agreement

These terms govern your use of the Accountabilio app on iPhone and on the web, and of this website. The service is provided by Dan Maze, trading as Accountabilio, based in Norway. Contact: accountabilio@icloud.com.

The 1 on 1 coaching programme is separate and has its own terms. How your data is handled is in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms.

Creating an account means accepting these terms.

The service

A tool for running the Accountabilio method: logging an urge as it happens, working through the steps, checking in each day, tracking habits, and seeing the patterns across your entries.

The method itself is published free. The subscription pays for the app, not for access to the method.

Not medical care

The app is a self-help tool. It is not therapy, medical treatment or clinical care, and it does not diagnose any condition.

Accountabilio holds no medical, psychological or clinical qualification. Nothing shown in the app is a diagnosis or medical advice; the patterns are calculations on what you have entered.

Anyone dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, compulsive behaviour beyond their control or substance dependency should see a qualified professional.

This is not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact emergency services or a crisis line straight away. findahelpline.com lists free crisis lines by country. In Norway: 113, or Mental Helse on 116 123.

Age

You must be at least 18 years old to use Accountabilio.

Accounts

You sign in with an email address, with Apple, or, for an older account, with Reddit or GitHub. An account is for one person. Keep your sign-in details to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has used them.

You are responsible for what is done with your account.

Trial and subscriptions

On the website, your first subscription begins with a three day free trial, if you have not had a subscription before. Nothing is charged until the trial ends. The plans are:

• Monthly, 15 USD
• Three months, 35 USD
• Yearly, 89 USD

These are the total you pay: any VAT or sales tax is included, and nothing is added at checkout. In the iPhone app, the App Store shows you the price, in your own currency, and any free trial before you buy.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. We tell you before a price change applies to you.

Cancelling

You can cancel at any time, and keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.

• Bought in the iPhone app: Apple bills it, so cancel it in your iPhone’s Settings, under your name, then Subscriptions, at least 24 hours before the period ends. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel it.
• Bought on the website: cancel it from Settings, in the billing portal. Deleting your account also cancels it.

Cancelling before the free trial ends means you are not charged.

Refunds and withdrawal

If you are a consumer in Norway or the EEA and subscribed on the website, you can withdraw within fourteen days of the day your subscription started, without giving a reason, by writing to us. You asked for the service to start straight away, so if you withdraw after your first payment you pay only for the days you have used; during the free trial that is nothing.

Purchases made through the App Store are refunded by Apple, under Apple’s own rules, so ask Apple. For purchases on the website, write to accountabilio@icloud.com.

Your content

Everything you write in the app is yours. It is stored so it can be shown back to you. It is not sold, shared for advertising, or used to train AI models.

You can download all of it, and delete your account permanently, without contacting us: on the website from Settings, and in the app from your profile. Entries are special category data under the GDPR and are processed on the basis of your explicit consent, as the privacy policy describes.

The daily reminder

The app can remind you once a day, at a time you choose. It is off until you turn it on, it is scheduled on your phone rather than sent by us, and you can change the time or turn it off at any time. If notifications are turned off for Accountabilio in your phone’s settings, the reminder cannot arrive.

Acceptable use

• Accounts may not be shared, resold or sublicensed.
• The app may not be copied, decompiled or reverse engineered.
• The service may not be used unlawfully or to harass anyone.
• The service may not be attacked, probed for vulnerabilities, or used to reach another user’s data.
• The method may not be repackaged and sold as another party’s product.

Using the method yourself, and writing or speaking about it, is allowed. The paper is published free for that purpose.

Intellectual property

The app, its design, its code and the Accountabilio name belong to Accountabilio. You get a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app while your subscription is active.

The method is published free and anyone may use it on themselves.

No warranty

No particular outcome is guaranteed. Results vary and depend on things outside Accountabilio’s control, including your own effort.

The app is provided as it is. Reasonable efforts are made to keep it available and accurate, but it is not promised to run without interruption or errors.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Accountabilio is not liable for indirect or consequential loss from using the app, including lost income.

Where liability arises, it is limited to what you paid in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything that cannot be limited under Norwegian law.

Termination

You can delete your account at any time, from the app or the website.

Accountabilio may suspend or close an account for a serious breach of these terms or abuse of the service, refunding the unused part of any payment where that is fair.

If the service is discontinued, you get at least thirty days’ notice, so you can download your data.

Changes

These terms may be updated. Material changes are announced in the app or by email before they take effect. If you do not accept a change, you can cancel and get the unused part of the paid period refunded.

Governing law

Norwegian law applies, with Romerike og Glåmdal tingrett as the agreed venue.

This does not reduce the mandatory consumer protection you have under the law of your own country.

If you got the app from Apple's App Store

These points apply to the iPhone app in addition to the rest of these terms:

• These terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and its content.
• You may use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as the App Store’s Usage Rules allow. The licence cannot be transferred.
• We alone provide maintenance and support for the app. Apple has no obligation to.
• If the app fails to meet any warranty that applies, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund the price you paid for it, if any. Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
• We, not Apple, handle any claims about the app: product liability, failing to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, consumer protection, privacy, and any claim that the app infringes someone else’s intellectual property.
• You confirm that you are not in a country under a United States government embargo, or listed as a prohibited or restricted party by the United States government.
• You must follow the terms of any third party you use with the app, such as your mobile operator.
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
